Missouri Sheriffs to begin issuing Conceal Carry permits August 28^th

 

Pursuant to Senate Bill 75 which was signed into law by Governor Nixon, responsibility for issuing conceal carry permits as well as renewals off Conceal Carry permits will transfer from the Department of Revenue to local Sheriffs on August 28^th.   Persons making application for a new conceal carry permit or renewal of an existing permit in Stone County should submit the required fees and paperwork to the Stone County Sheriff’s Office.   Upon completion of the required background checks, successful applicants will be issued a permit by the Stone County Sheriff.

Conceal Carry permits issued August 28^th and thereafter will be valid for 5 years at which time they will need to be renewed.  Any conceal carry permits which have not been renewed after 6 months will be voided.  Permits which were issued prior to August 28^th, 2013 will still be valid until their expiration date, at which time the holder will need to renew their conceal carry permit with the Stone County Sheriff’s Office.

Records regarding conceal carry permit holders are closed records, as such unauthorized release will be a class A misdemeanor after August 28^th.    A change of name or address as well as lost or stolen permits will need to be reported to the Sheriff’s Office.  Upon notification the Sheriff will issue a new permit with updated information for a fee of $10.00.   Original application fee for a conceal carry permit remains at $100.  Renewal fee remains at $50.  

Please be patient as we proceed through this change and added responsibility to the office staff at the Stone County Sheriff’s Office.  From August 28^th through January 1, 2014, we will issue a paper permit for the conceal carry permit.   The machine should be in place by January 1, 2014 to print out cards for the permit.   Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding while we proceed into this process.  Please feel free to contact our office at 417-357-6116 with any questions.
