PRESS RELEASE

On June 10th, 2015, a Stone County Deputy made a routine traffic stop on a black 2005 Chevy Malibu for no license plates displayed in the area of Mo 13 and Mo 86 in the south part of the county.  During the execution of the traffic stop, the deputy noticed the occupants making movements which lead him to believe they were concealing items.  During the traffic stop, the deputy discovered marijuana, prescription pills, methamphetamine and an ID from another person not in the vehicle.  The male driver advised the deputy he had a small caliber handgun concealed in his waistband and allowed the deputy to remove the weapon.  Upon contacting the person on the ID, it was discovered the ID was stolen from a vehicle in Springfield, Mo, and used fraudulently in the area.  Both occupants were arrested and transported to the Stone County Jail.  Prosecuting Attorney Selby reviewed the probable cause statements submitted and filed the following charges:

 

Summer Dawn Brown, 27 yr old white female from Springfield, Mo

            2 counts of Class C Felony Possession Controlled Substance

 

James J Lee, 37 yr old black male from St Louis, Mo

            2 counts of Class C Felony Possession Controlled Substance

            Unlawful Possession of a Firearm

 

At this time both individuals remain incarcerated in the Stone County Jail on a $50,000 Bond.

Springfield Police Department was contacted and the information forwarded to them in reference to the stolen identifications.
